THE STORY BEHIND THE LETTER
The idea for The Letter began with a story from my own family.
During the First World War, my Great-Aunt's Ella's fiancé was missing in action.
It was the worst of all worlds - no closure and the door left wide open for hope.
Ella never stopped believing or hoping that he might come home. She spent the rest of her life waiting for him.
Years later, her story stayed with me. I began to wonder what it means to love someone across an absence that never really ends.
And so I brought that story to Cornwall, the place where I live and write and fell in love.
That is how The Letter was born.
